The Roots transports you back to the early days of progressive rock radio. Back to when DJs played entire album sides and hand crafted sets of creatively themed selections. At The Roots, we build custom music sets focusing on the different styles of progressive music from the late 1960s, 70s and 80s. Your favorite progressive artists are all here 24/7, with no commercial breaks. We still play full album sides, concert calendars and all the best parts of free-form progressive rock radio.

We focus on classic and deep tracks you haven’t heard in 25+ years. Many of the tunes you will hear on The Roots Radio were never released on CDs, so we carefully transferred then from the original classic LPs. Listen carefully, sometimes you can actually hear the record noises in the background.

Some people may confuse us with the plethora of Classic Rock stations. Most of the deep cuts we play will never be heard on the Classic Rock stations because they only play the mega “Top Forty” type rock hits from the past. Thanks to our ongoing research at used record stores and online, we will continue adding 100 or more “new” songs every week. We have researched thousands of LPs from the 1960s, 70s and 80s to track down those special tunes played only on Progressive Rock FM stations so many years ago. Since some of our music was played only regionally in the Mid-West, you may hear songs that will be brand new to your ears.

If you have music suggestions or want to make us aware of a song we have missed, please e-mail us at request@ourmusicalroots.com. Your input will help to expand music selection.

Our audio quality is as impressive as our music selection. Our sound is shaped by Orban Optimod audio processing. We stream in HE-AACv2 for the highest quality streaming audio you can find. Your mobile device will stream our music with no difficulty at all.

So dust off those bell-bottom jeans and slip into a paisley shirt, as we transport you back to progressive rock radio the way you remember it. Maybe we will all go out for an Orange Julius after class., or maybe to a “head shop” to look at the posters.
